Thad Miller

Thad Miller is PhD student at ASU's new School of Sustainability and an IGERT in Urban Ecology Senior Fellow. Before arriving in Arizona in the fall of 2006, Thad was a Research Analyst at The Climate Trust in Portland, Oregon where he focused on developments in state and federal climate policy.  Prior to that, he received his MPA in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs and his BA at Bucknell University in Environmental Studies and Economics.

Thad's interests lie at the intersection of science and policy studies and environmental philosophy. He is interested in the ways in which certain policies and decision-making processes might facilitate the convergence of values on a more sustainable path. To that end, he has conducted research on the role of adaptation in climate policy, value debates over conservation and development in international conservation projects and policy, and the role of values in interdisciplinary research. For his dissertation research, Thad plans to examine the extent to which values affect sustainability science and its potential implications for policy.
